Brave Tales #4: Sunset by the Secluded Beach

Biking 05
I again took Brave for a spin and this time, instead of taking our usual route, dared to bike to as far as Cordova, but when I reached Merkado, had to go back because I found it too chaotic.  There were just a lot of trisikads and tricycles who would abruptly stop (my knuckles ached from constantly pressing the brakes) and motorcycle drivers would also appear from seemingly out of nowhere, driving too fast and not giving way.

Halfway back home. I spotted a dirt road that seemed to lead to the beach so I steered my bike to that direction and was greeted with this view.

I could tell the sun was about the set so I opted to wait and whiled away my time by taking photos of my bike and the views.

Later, I found out that the sun would set not by the beach, but across it, which actually made the views prettier because it had a backdrop of trees.  It was also where the locals would leave their bancas, so I had more to work on photo-wise.

Did you notice how the clouds looked like a volcano and that the setting sun was right on its mouth/center?

Here’s a collage of my sunset views on this sweet spot: my early view of the beachfront, the pale sky that suddenly turned a darker shade of orange, a close-up of the volcano cloud, of the rounded sun over the coconut trees, and of the coconut trees against a sea of yellow-orange.

Here’s my favorite photo from this set, because it just looked so tranquil.

Here are the rest of my photos, which were taken right at the end of my visit to this place, which by the way remains unidentified since Google maps weren’t particularly helpful.

I think this is one of the perks of biking: it brings me places, even to nook and crannies that are unknown to most.

Brave and I will be back to this spot, for sure.

Brave Tales #3: The Sun Goes Down

Just another set of photos taken while I was out biking.

It almost looked like a full moon, doesn’t it? But it’s actually the sun going down.

It was beautiful to watch it hide among the clouds, only to peek again and show its beauty.

Ultimately, it bid the day adieu and left me with just these colorful skyline to admire.

Just beautiful.

Brave Tales #2: Beautiful Sunset at Suba Basbas

While out biking in my usual Marigondon Beach, Suba-Basbas, Guerillero, Quezon National Highway route, I had to do a detour when I reached Suba Basbas Elementary School because I saw a really rounded setting sun. Unfortunately, the school was already closed so I had no vantage point. I thus just drove around until I reached this spot.

Beautiful, isn’t it?

I was a little late because the sun was already almost halfway on the horizon when I arrived so I had no choice but to keep on snapping photos in Auto mode.

Here’s my favorite from this set.

Don’t you love how this tree provided an interesting backdrop to this fiery sunset?  The tree is a frangipani and it’s almost in full bloom so I plan to visit it again to take photos of its flowers.

By the way, here’s a zoomed-in shot of the rounded sun.

Sunsets have been so fiery lately and perhaps it is because it’s summer.

When I couldn’t see the sun anymore, I decided to head home and chanced on these orange clouds at Guerrillero.

Brave Tales #1: Finding our Savannah

Brave 01

Does this look like Africa? Nah, this was taken in our favorite biking trail.

Last week, I introduced Brave, my new Merida mountain bike in this post. Since then, we’ve been cruising around Lapu-Lapu in search of our preferred biking trail.

Yesterday, I discovered our favorite. It’s the Suba Basbas Road-Guerrillero-Marigondon Beach Road route. It instantly appealed to me because Suba Basbas and Guerrillero are not main roads so there were fewer cars and tricycles to contend with. There are just so many crazy drivers in the Philippines that it’s always a struggle to drive along its roads, especially when onboard a bike. I wish someday all roads will have bike lanes…

Anyway, this route became an instant favorite because it also afforded me beautiful views of the sunset. The main photo of this post was taken there.  It was such a beautiful spot and the sky looked so colorful it looked unreal. One friend even commented it looked like I was in some savannah or safari in Africa.

Here’s another photo from that same spot.

Isn’t it beautiful?

Chasing the Sun Onboard Brave

Two weeks ago, I bought a mountain bike. It was another impulsive buy, but it’s something I don’t regret.

Meet Brave, my Ferrari Red Merida mountain bike. I bought it in Bikecology in Banilad.

To be honest, I don’t know anything about bikes. Good thing the shopkeepers were so helpful and accommodating. The owner herself recommended this and said it’s good value for money considering its being a 9-speed bike.

Now, my after-work routine revolves around Brave. Yup, as shared here many times, I name all my gadgets and toys and because my bike’s brand is Merida who is the heroine of the Disney movie Brave, I named my bike Brave. Come to think of it, Merida’s a redhead too.

Every afternoon, I take her on a spin as a form of exercise. I love how she takes me places.  Usually, I visit a friend’s house and let her daughter amuse me with her antics. Sometimes, Brave and I just chase the setting sun, taking simple pleasure in watching the sky turn into a myriad of colors.

Here’s another photo from today’s ride.

Until I had Brave, I never realized how relaxing biking is. These past days, I have been very busy, even stressed, but the moment I’m off biking, I forget my cares in the world.
